Leptastrea are some of nicest encrusting corals of the world. They have short tentacles and grow very quickly. They are great for both beginner or advanced reef keepers as they are easy to keep. They are somewhat uncommon but the nicest varieties are becoming farmed these days. They have similar care requirements to other encrusting LPS corals. One of the nicest varities is the polkaroo.   It is a popular coral for hobbyists to collect, often trying to acquire all the different types. Here at Fragbox we are growing quiet a few different kinds of lepastrea.

They really have no special requirements and do not need to be fed but will accept very small foods powder forms like reef roids.

They generally do not like intense lighting. They do best in low – medium lighting conditions or par levels of about 100. They can be acclimatized to higher light but if you notice signs of bleaching they should be moved lower down.

They don’t have any sting but can grow quiet quickly over rocks. In order to frag them we recommend using bone cutters to cut back the rock.
