One of the coolest and deepest purple of all the plating montipora species. This coral is a classic and has been kept, traded and grown in captivity for literally decades. It is so easy and forgiving. It gets its name from its characteristic plate like growth pattern. It is easily recognizable and is simply unmistakable
Plating montipora as their name suggest will plate out into open waters. They first encrust their base to ensure they are stable and then will start their outward growth from there. They can start out on rock or even on glass. We recommended placing them on rocks slightly higher in aquarium but off to the side. This way they will get enough light but they won’t shadow other corals as they grow. They can grow extremely fast once established and take up a lot of room. It calcifies in order to grow and you should ensure calcium levels are maintained around 450ppm and stable alkalinity levels ( we keep ours around 8). In terms of hard corals its really one of the fastest growing and easy to keep it out of all of them. It has no sting and does well will actually fuse and grow with some other monticap species. They require moderate flow and need the current to keep their bodies clean and to avoid having detritus build up on them. They should show off a deep rich color, if they begin to look light or pale they are getting too much light as where brown coloration usually indicated not enough light or your nutrients are too high.
