Just Landed: ORA Maxima and Derasa Clams

We just took delivery of a beautiful batch of aquacultured Tridacna clams from ORA in Florida, and these are some of the nicest we’ve had in the store.

Why ORA

ORA has been growing clams in Florida for decades. Every one of these animals was raised in captivity — not pulled off a reef — so they arrive already used to tank life, tank light, and tank food. They ship better, they settle in faster, and you’re not putting any pressure on wild populations.

Maxima

If you want colour, this is the clam. The maximas in this shipment run through electric blue, teal, and gold, with the patterning that makes people stop and stare at a tank.

Maximas want strong light and a spot on the rockwork where they can grip with their foot. Give them a stable, mature tank and don’t move them around once they’ve attached.

Derasa

Derasa are the easy ones. They’re the fastest growing of the tridacnids and the most forgiving about light, which makes them a great first clam. Colours lean toward gold, cream, and blue along the mantle edge, and they grow into a real showpiece animal.

Derasa prefer to sit on the sand bed rather than up in the rocks, so give them an open spot with room to grow.
