Montipora Confusa
The Montipora Confusa is found in the western Indo-Pacific region, often on reefs in shallow lagoons at depths of less than 5 feet. It is also found, however, at depths of up to 100 feet. In a home aquarium they should be placed in the medium to upper half of the tank where they will receive moderate to
high lighting. Because they are a plating coral they should also receive enough flow to ensure that detritus does not accumulate on them. Ideally, they should be placed on an exposed ledge on the live rock. While they do not have any sting, care should be taken to allow them enough room to grow without impeding on other corals.
This species of Montipora is photosynthetic and is able to obtain all of its needs from the aquarium lighting. However, it will benefit from occasional feedings of an SPS specific coral food. Fragging a Montipora Confusa is relatively straightforward. A small piece can be cut from one of the edges with
coral cutters and glued to a frag plug. It can also be trimmed to control growth if necessary. The Montipora Confusa is one of the easier SPS corals to keep in a reef aquarium.
